Cass County Democratic Central Committee Recommendations for the August 4 Primary

The August 4 Primary Election is TUESDAY, and there are important decisions to make at every level of the ballot. The Cass County Democratic Central Committee has carefully considered the constitutional amendments and local races and is proud to share our recommendations. PLEASE PULL A DEMOCRATIC BALLOT! 

Statewide Constitutional Amendments

 Amendment 1 – YES
Renews the one-tenth of one percent sales/use tax that funds Missouri's state parks, historic sites, and soil and water conservation for another ten years.

 Amendment 2 – No Recommendation
The committee chose to remain neutral on this measure regarding the election of county assessors in charter counties.

 Amendment 4 – NO
Weakens Missouri's initiative petition process by allowing a small minority of voters to block measures approved by an overwhelming majority.

 Amendment 5 – NO
Opens the door to replacing Missouri's income tax with higher sales and use taxes, shifting more of the tax burden onto working families and seniors.

The Cass County Democratic Central Committee is proud to endorse the following Democratic candidates:

• Jon Pennell – Missouri House District 55
• Staci Czar – Missouri House District 56
• Liz Davenport – Missouri House District 62
• Art Ruiz – Cass County Recorder of Deeds

These candidates have earned our confidence, and we encourage Democrats across Cass County to support them on August 4.

The 4th Congressional District Is Within Reach

The Cass County Democratic Central Committee has chosen not to endorse in the Democratic primary for Missouri's 4th Congressional District. Our focus is on supporting our nominee and uniting behind them once the votes are counted.

What we will say is this:  This primary matters.

With the new congressional district boundaries, Missouri's 4th Congressional District is finally within reach. National polling is showing a 10–12% swing toward Democrats, the latest polling has Trump underwater in Missouri (-4), and the new 4th Congressional District is now within 8–10% of being Democratic.

That doesn't guarantee victory, but it does mean we have a real opportunity.

To seize that opportunity, we need a nominee who is prepared to fight for all of us. Not just our urban communities or our rural communities, but every town, every county, and every family that calls the 4th District home.

On August 5, there will no longer be "my candidate" or "your candidate." There will only be our nominee.

The path won't be easy, but for the first time in a long time, it's a path that actually exists. If we unite behind our nominee, do the work, and stay focused on November, we have an opportunity to put a competitive Democratic campaign on the ballot and give voters a real choice.

Most importantly, make a plan to vote on August 4.

Every race matters. Every amendment matters. Every vote matters.
